Three things move an LTL price, and distance is the tame one
Two quotes for the same pallets on the same lane can differ substantially. It is rarely the miles. It is the class, the access at either end, and whether what arrived matched what was declared.
Measure it wrapped
A pallet measured before wrapping is the single most common cause of a reclass. Inches change cubic feet, cubic feet change density, density changes the class.

On a density-based commodity, the class follows how much space the freight occupies for its weight. Pack the same goods three ways and you get three densities, three classes and three rates — without a single thing changing about the goods themselves.
That is the mechanism people find counter-intuitive, and it is why a half-full pallet is so often worse value than a full one.

I do not know my freight class. Is that a problem?
No, and it is the normal situation. With accurate dimensions, an accurate weight and a plain description, a provider can determine it far more reliably than a guess — see class and dimensions.
